Whilst such a payout may seem to many a massive sum there are some who may have feared the compensation to the 50 year old would reach a far higher figure.
The Scottish manager was brought in on a six year contract and bringing such a deal to an end less than one year into the deal may have led Man United liable to cough up for his entire contract.
Moyes was apparently aware of his imminent sacking as far back as February and will now be free to look for a new deal, whereas the payment covering the entirety of his contract may have left him unable to take on a new post whilst being effectively on ‘gardening leave’, that has not proven the case.
Dutch national team coach Louis van Gaal is favourite to take over at Old Trafford.
