The prolific Netherlands international had initially been ruled out of action for the whole campaign after suffering a nasty-looking knee injury in the second leg of the Red Devils’ Uefa Champions League quarter-final clash with Olympiakos at Old Trafford back in March.

In fact, some even questioned whether Van Persie would even return to fitness in time to feature in this summer’s Fifa World Cup finals with the Oranje, however, now that former United head coach David Moyes has been relieved of his duties at the Theatre of Dreams, the Dutchman has seemingly made a miraculous recovery.

So much so that the 30-year-old could even be set to play some part in United’s Premier League encounter at home to struggling Sunderland this weekend according to the club’s interim manager Ryan Giggs.

“We’ll just have to wait and see how he goes this week. He came back last Friday and he trained well,” said Giggs.

“He just needs to work on his fitness now so, yeah, he looked great.”

Van Persie has managed to hit the back of the net just 11 times in the Premier League so far in this campaign.
