Forward could now miss the rest of the champions’ fixtures this season.
Manchester United front man Wayne Rooney limped out of training on Thursday with a groin injury and stomach bug as fears mounted that the Englishman’s World Cup jinx could be about to strike again, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The England international will now be sent for scans on the problem on Friday so that the Premier League champions’ medical staff can better understand the full nature of the injury, although it must now be highly unlikely that Rooney will be able to feature for the Red Devils in their league match with struggling Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

And Three Lions head coach Roy Hodgson will also now be praying that the results of Rooney’s scans do not pick up anything more serious or long term, especially with this summer’s Fifa World Cup finals now less than six weeks away from getting under way in Brazil.
Rooney, of course, has gone into the previous two World Cups carrying injuries which then hampered his performances in the tournament proper, both in Germany in 2006 and then again four years later in South Africa too.
He has still not scored a goal at any FIFA World Cup.
