The 27 year old has been a bit-part player at Old Trafford this season but had only recently signed a new five year contract with the club so it’s a tad surprising that the Premier League side were not able to garner more from his sale.

Nani cost Man United £20m back in 2007 and on occasions impressed sufficiently to suggest he would come out of the shadow of fellow countryman Cristiano Ronaldo but seemingly it was not meant to be.

The Man United wide-man joins Nemanja Vidic en route to the Italian top tier with the Serbian having already agreed a move to Inter Milan.

A number of other under-performing members of the Man United squad are said to be on their way out with the likes of Ashley Young, Tom Cleverley and Rio Ferdinand also look set to leave this summer as incoming boss Louis van Gaal sets about conducting a major squad re-shuffle with midfielder Toni Kroos and Kevin Strootman, of Bayern Munich and AS Roma respectively, said to be on the club’s shopping-list.
