Tottenham have been linked with what seems a realistic move to lure Man United defender Jonny Evans to White Hart Lane this summer.

Football Direct News claims that the Northern Irish international is seen by the north London side as an ideal addition to help beef up their leaky back-line and the 26 year old may well be considering his Man United future.

Evans has started just 17 of Man United’s 37 Premier League fixtures this term and whilst this is partly down to injury issues the centre-back has on occasion been left out of the starting eleven when fully fit.

What will be key is how incoming boss Louis van Gaal chooses to invest in his squad, if the Dutch manager opts to bring in high-profile replacements for outgoing veterans Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic instead of trusting to the likes of Evans, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans then a move to Spurs may become a distinct possibility.

The Belfast born battler is into his eighth season in the Man United first team set-up and has arguably never been a set-in-stone regular, chiefly because Messrs. Ferdinand and Vidic has barred his progress, all the more reason why Evans will hope to be handed the chance to shine under van Gaal.

Evans has made a total of 178 appearances for Man United and whilst he initially struggled for form the no nonsense defender has matured into a very able performer and with doubts surrounding the Tottenham futures of Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul a move for the experienced Old Trafford man would be a good one to consider.
