The Portuguese forward has been in fine form for Pacos and scored the opening goal in their relegation play-off against Desportivo das Aves to help secure the club’s top-flight survival.

Having been loaned out three times now – with Turkish side Besiktas and Portuguese club Rio Ave, he believes that he is now a much better player than the one who arrived at Old Trafford in 2010 and struggled to make an impact.

And he has now set his sights on a place in Louis Van Gaals side for the upcoming season as Van Gaal assesses his options for when he takes over after the World Cup.

“Now my objective is to go back to Man Utd to try and convince the new coach that I have a chance in the team,” the 23-year-old told the Portuguese press.

He has been linked with a move to Portuguese champions Benfica recently as his 12 goals in 27 league appearances this season has caught their eye.
