The experienced Netherlands national team boss may not officially start his new role at the Theatre of Dreams until after the end of this summer’s Fifa World Cup finals in Brazil.

However, the Dutchman is said to already be putting plans in place for the new campaign, and one player’s future that Van Gaal will need to make a decision about is Anderson, with the Brazil international having just returned to the north west following the end of an unsuccessful six-month loan spell with Serie A outfit Fiorentina.

The midfielder, 26, made just seven appearances in total in the Italian top flight for La Viola in the second half of the previous campaign and with a contract at the Red Devils that now has just a little over a year left to run on it, Van Gaal must decide quickly what to do with the player.
