Check in to Spain vs Netherlands

Man United are ready to trigger Atletico Madrid youngster Koke’s £48m release clause as Louis van Gaal sets his sights on the young Spanish international according to the Daily Star.

The Old Trafford side have been linked with a host of potential midfield signings with that area of the club’s squad that is undoubtedly in need of refreshing this summer.

Van Gaal is happy to use up a quarter of his reported £200m transfer war-chest to land Koke, who had a standout campaign last term.

Only Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria contributed more assists in La Liga action than the 22 year old who played a hugely important role in Diego Simeone side’s La Liga title success, the Vicente Calderon side’s first in 18 years.

Koke’s form has led to his inclusion in Vicente del Bosque’s provisional 30 man World Cup squad.

Louis van Gaal may well be ready to offload under-performing talents such as Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher, Micheal Carrick and Marouane Fellaini to make space for such an addition and Koke could be just one a host of players who could leave Atletico Madrid after their excellent season in both domestic and continental action.

Koke has represented his hometown club since the age of eight and has already racked up 168 appearances for the Spanish capital side.
