Man Utd Seek New Midfield Target After Argentine Ace Turns Down Transfer

SL Benfica star rejects opportunity to move to Old Trafford, preferring to stay with Portuguese giants.

It seems like new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will have to toil hard to lure his coveted targets to Old Trafford.

Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez has elected to publicly distance himself from transfer rumours linking him with a move to the Red Devils, signalling the Premier League giants may have to look elsewhere.

“I am very happy at Benfica,” Perez is quoted as saying by the Daily Express.

“I signed the contract renewal before travelling to join the Argentina squad, which shows that I want to keep wearing this shirt.

“I am feeling very well at Benfica and I know the club will try to do the best for me. I’ll respect what they decide.”

The 27 year-old was speaking about a new four-year contract extension that he recently signed at the Estadio da Luz.

Perez, who is known for his versatility in midfield, is also being followed by Spanish side Valencia, but has been reported to be on the transfer wishlist of the Red Devils for quite some time now. Hence, the Greater Manchester side would be understandably dejected following his snub.

Like his predecessor David Moyes, it appears that Louis Van Gaal too may not find it easy to sign marquee players this season, especially with no European football to offer his targets next season.
