Manchester United Made To Wait As Southampton Put Luke Shaw Move On Hold

Saints to delay sale of young left-back.

Check in to England vs Italy

Southampton are reportedly not ready to finalise the sale of Luke Shaw to Manchester United until they have appointed a new manager, according to BBC Sport.

The teenage left-back is one of the most highly rated prospects in the country at the moment and has been widely expected to complete a £27m move to United for some time now, since making his intentions to leave the club clear on the final day of the Premier League season last month.

England manager Roy Hodgson has said that he wants any transfer deals involving members of his World Cup squad to be resolved before his side’s first game against Italy in Brazil, but the Saints’ stance on a deal for Shaw at the moment could prove something of a stumbling block.

With Mauricio Pochettino leaving to join Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton are now without a manager for the time being, but are seemingly hopeful of appointing one within the next ten days, with former Feyenoord coach Ronald Koeman looking the favourite to take the job.

United are thought to be prioritising a move for Shaw, but it has also been suggested that they could switch their focus to Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba as they grow increasingly frustrated at an inability to complete this transfer.
