German International Confirms £20m Man United Move ‘Could Happen’

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has ramped up speculation of a possible move to join Premier League side Man United with comments made by the centre-back following Germany’s 4-0 win over Portugal.

The Daily Star reports on Hummels reaction to questions concerning a possible move to Old Trafford.

When asked by a Daily Telegraph reporter about a potential move to Man United Hummels stated;

“I never think about that or talk about it because it is something that isn’t important for me right now.

“Maybe it will be some day, but I don’t expect it to be like that this summer.”

This source then allude to such a move by stating, perhaps wishfully, that such a move ‘could happen’ and it does seem plausible that the 25 year old would be considering a move away from the Westfalenstadion.

Louis van Gaal has a large defensive hole to fill following the summer exits of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic and £20m rated Hummels would certainly go someway to filling the void.

Hummels won back to back Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund in 2010/11 & 2011/12 but has since seen Jurgen Klopp’s side fall way off the pace and with Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski opting to move to domestic rivals Bayern Munich the rock solid defender may feel the time may be right for a fresh challenge.
