New Premier League bosses Mauricio Pochettino and Louis van Gaal look set to battle it out for the signing of one of the new Manchester United manager’s young Dutch stars in the form of PSV Eindhoven forward Memphis Depay, according to reports in The Express.

The 20 year-old forward scored the winning goal from long range as The Netherlands came from behind to beat Australia 3-2 in their last 2014 FIFA World Cup match, guaranteeing qualification from Group B alongside one of the tournament’s revelations in Chile.

Depay has come through the youth system at PSV to make 60 league appearances in the Eredivisie, scoring 17 goals and impressing with his speed, intelligence and explosive shooting.

Both new managers are known to want to freshen up squads that are seen to have underachieved last season, with Spurs having just edged out United when it came to qualification for the 2014/15 Europa League.

Tottenham are perhaps less well-stocked with attacking talent than United, with the likes of Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado having underwhelmed since big-money moves to the club last summer.

Van Gaal, meanwhile, will have to find space in his team for the likes of Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Robin van Persie, but Depay may still be tempted by the idea of joining a manager who he already knows and respects.
