Manchester United have raised their offer to £34m to land Southampton full-back Luke Shaw after the club raised their asking price ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to the Daily Mirror.

The increased offer means the 18-year-old would become the world’s most expensive teenager ahead of potential teammate Wayne Rooney.

Shaw, 18, is set to make his first competitive start in Tuesday’s clash against Costa Rica in Belo Horizonte – making him the second youngest player to appear for England at a World Cup finals behind Michael Owen.

Last month Southampton rejected a £27m approach from the Red Devils for Shaw, and refused to comment on where they stand over United’s improved offer.

The south coast club are under no obligation to sell their star players and Ronald Koeman is keen to keep as many on board as possible and won’t consider sales unless interested parties meet their valuation of the players.

Southampton have already shown they can play hardball over their top stars, forcing Arsenal to splash out £15million for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain three years ago.

Liverpool have also been told that they must pay £30m if they want to sign fellow England international Adam Lallana.

United are desperate to bring Shaw to the club and are willing to offer him around £100,000 per week.
