Man United Prepare £10m Bid For Netherlands World Cup Star

Red Devils move to replace Vidic.

Manchester United are readying a £10m bid for Feyenoord defender Stefan de Vrij, according to The Mirror.

Centre-back De Vrij started all seven games in the Dutch national team’s 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign and manager Louis van Gaal is keen to bring him to Old Trafford.

Lazio are also interested in De Vrij and have made an offer for him, but the 22-year-old is reluctant to talk to the Rome club because he has his heart set on a move to the Red Devils.

Borussia Dortmund rock Mats Hummels was United’s top target to replace Nemanja Vidic, who joined Inter Milan on a free transfer earlier this summer.

However, Dortmund have made it clear that he is going nowhere and, as a result, the 20-time champions of England have switched their focus to De Vrij.

De Vrij has just under 12 months left to run on his current contract, so United are confident of landing him for a bargain price.

Van Gaal hopes to sign another Dutch international, with a move for Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman planned for January.

In seven World Cup games, De Vrij made 26 tackles, 25 interceptions and 50 clearances.

He scored one goal too, in the 5-1 win over Spain.
