The 20-year-old has long been regarded as an exciting prospect for the future by United, though there will now be some concerns after his failure to impress in a short time with the Premier League’s bottom club.

Powell has failed to make Leicester’s matchday squad for the last three games and has only made two substitute appearances for the Foxes all season long, and the club now seem to be planning for life without him.

Initially a £4m signing by United from Crewe Alexandra in 2012, Powell has barely featured for the Red Devils’ first-team, though he impressed in another loan spell with Championship side Wigan Athletic last season.

Still, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the England youngster now as he heads back to United for the second half of this season.
