The 24 year old Dutch international has recently returned from a long term cruciate ligament injury and Louis van Gaal wants to lure his former national team charge to Old Trafford and his efforts to do so will be aided if Man City can knock his AS Roma side out of the Champions League next week.

AS Roma have placed a hefty £60m price-tag on Strootman but Man United will hope to land the former PSV Eindhoven man for £30m and the chances of doing so will clearly be increased if Rudi Garcia’s side fail to secure the financial boost of a continued run in the Champions League.

Despite the signings of Ander Herrera and Daley Blind, as well as the resurgence of Marouane Fellaini in recent weeks, Louis van Gaal is still very keen on bringing in Strootman to boost his midfield compliment.
