The German defender has attracted the interest of many of European football’s top table after proving his is worthy of playing at the absolute highest level.

Following the announcement that current Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp will leave the club at the end of the season, Hummels is also expected to follow him out of the door.

Hummels’ contract at Signal Iduna Park currently runs until the summer of 2017 and as a result, Dortmund are not in a position where they have to sell or cash in on him. Because of this, it is likely Louis van Gaal will need to be more liberal with his chequebook in order to secure the centre back.

That said, if Manchester United were to spend more on the player, it seems like it would be money well spent considering the quality he has displayed this season and the Red Devils’ need for a commanding defender.
