Southampton have set their sights on Anderlecht’s star midfielder Steven Defour according to The Sun.

Per the source, The Saints are preparing a £6 million bid for the Belgium international who missed out on Euro 2016 this summer.

The report states that Southampton boss Claude Puel is keen to bolster his options in midfield following the sale of Victor Wanyama to Tottenham. The Sun goes onto say that the 28-year-old is desperate to leave Anderlecht following abuse from fans.

Defour joined Anderlecht from the Portuguese giants Porto back in 2014 however, has not been forgiven by Anderlecht supporters following his five-year stint with bitter rivals Standard Liege.

Southampton are keen to strengthen their squad after offloading  Graziano Pelle to China, selling Wanyama to Tottenham and bringing in £30 million from the sale of Sadio Mane to Liverpool.

Defour provided ten assists and scored three goals in 42 appearances for Anderlecht in all competitions last season.
