The Madrid giants start a tug-of-war with the Gunners.
Atletico Madrid are set to go head to head with Arsenal for Malaga’s French international midfielder, Jeremy Toulalan, according to The Express.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with the 29-year-old for some time now and are in great need for a competent defensive midfielder now that Abou Diaby has been ruled out for nine months with a cruciate ligament injury.
However, La Liga giants, Atletico Madrid, are said to be keen on putting pressure on the player to jump ship from Malaga this summer.
The 36 cap French international is reportedly happy with life on the south coast of Spain but their financial difficulties off the pitch may prompt them to let go of a number of their first team stars.
Toulalan’s agent, Mickael Manuello, confirmed the capital club’s interest and also revealed the extent of it; “Atletico Madrid are putting a lot of pressure on Jeremy,” he said, “But it is also true that he has other concrete options.”
The former Lyon man joined Malaga in the summer of 2011 and has gone on to make 52 appearances for the club, 27 of which have come this season.
He is valued at £13 million and alongside young midfielder, Isco, is one of Malaga’s most prized assets, meaning that he will most likely be moved on when the transfer window reopens.
