Swansea manager believes Cardiff City vs Swansea will be like the Rome derbies.
Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has revealed that he cannot wait for next season’s Premier League Welsh derbies against Cardiff City according to The Mirror.
The Premier League will host all Welsh matches next season for the first time after Cardiff secured promotion to the top flight with a 0-0 draw against Charlton on Tuesday.
They are now set to follow in the footsteps of their South Wales rivals who were promoted to the top division two years ago.
The two sides regularly went head to head during their time in the Championship together but have never faced off in the Premier League.
Swans boss Michael Laudrup has revealed that he cannot wait for the derbies and that he believes the atmosphere at the grounds will be comparable to those in the Rome derbies between Lazio and Roma.
The Danish manager has never been in charge of a club during a British derby but knows the feeling well having played in a number of El Clasicos during his time with Real Madrid and Barcelona.
“I know the Swansea and Cardiff derby is something everyone is looking forward to,” said Laudrup.
“I have tried some heavy ones when I was a player.
“If you talk about games in the same area, I played for Lazio against Roma in Rome. That was a really heavy one.
“Juventus vs Torino in Turin was a little less.
“I also played in the Real Madrid and Barcelona games, but that is a different type of one. There are 400 miles between the two clubs – it’s like Liverpool and Manchester United here where those games are more about the history and tradition and all that.
“If you look at the same area, like Cardiff and Swansea, then I think it is more like Lazio and Roma.”
