La Viola are poised to make a shock move for Marcos Alonso, says his dad.

Bolton Wanderers full back, Marcos Alonso could be set for a shock free transfer to Italian giants Fiorentina at the end of the season, Sky Sports reports.

The player’s father and agent, Marcos Alonso Pena, claims that the Italian side are in poll position to land his signature, though there is interest from Stoke and Celtic too.

The 22-year-old former Real Madrid youth product joined Bolton in 2010 but has made just 31 appearances during his time in Lancashire, 15 of which have come this season.

A combination of injury and personal problems have prevented him from making more of an impact on Trotters fans. In 2011 he was the driver of a car that crashed an killed one of the female passengers inside. He was alleged to have been over the legal drink drive limit though no charges were filed.

However, now enjoying his best spell in a Bolton shirt his father claims that he wants to help the club in obtaining promotion before discussing his future.

“Yes, Fiorentina are very, very close to Marcos,” Alonso Sr said, “We were in Florence for the first time in December, to speak with the Viola.

“But now Marcos wants to finish this season quietly with Bolton, trying to do his best professional job to bring the club into the Premier League.”

Alonso is out of contract at The Reebok this summer and has yet to sign a new three year extension that has been offered to him.
