According to Sky Sport Italia [via Mercato365], the 30-year-old Italy international is leaning toward not renewing his deal with Viola.

The midfielder’s contract comes to an end at the beginning of July, at which point he would become available on a free transfer.

FC Toronto are believed to be leading the chase for the pass-master, and would be keen to add him to their growing contingent of European stars.

Fellow Italy international Sebastian Giovinco is already at the club, who can also boast of Poland international Damien Perquis and former Olympique de Marseille man Benoit Cheyrou.

Aquilani was taken to Anfield in 2009 by Rafael Benitez, ostensibly as a replacement for Xabi Alonso, but was loaned to Juventus in 2010 as Roy Hodgson replaced the Spaniard in the hotseat.

AS Roma are also rumoured to be interested in a move for the midfielder.
