French midfielder agrees deal with Madrid giants.
Malaga midfielder Jeremy Toulalan is reportedly ready to turn down Arsenal’s advances after agreeing a deal to join La Liga side Atletico Madrid, according to talkSPORT.
The French international had been high on Arsene Wenger’s wish list this summer as he looks to overhaul his squad and he had identified Toulalan as the ideal replacement for Alex Song who left for Barcelona last summer.
The 29-year-old defensive midfielder has impressed with Malaga this season but was earmarked as one of the club’s big name stars to be moved on this summer as they face mounting off field financial difficulties and Atletico were quickest to pounce.
Arsenal had been linked with the former Lyon man in the January transfer window but failed to make their move, and now they are left to rue the missed chance as Toulalan looks set to join the Cop Del Rey winners over the next week.
According to French newspaper L’Equipe he will head to the Spanish capital on a three-year deal for a fee of around £4 million.
Toulalan joined Malaga in the summer of 2011 after a successful six year stint at Lyon and he has gone on to make 54 appearances during his two seasons in southern Spain.
