Tricky wide man open to Spanish return.
Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel has stated that he would be open to a return to his homeland with Atletico Madrid this summer, Sky Sports reports.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed another fine season in the Portuguese top flight, after scoring 5 goals and creating nine assists over 36 appearances and had been on the radar of Liverpool who looked to take advantage of the Portuguese side’s off field financial difficulties.
However, the Spanish international has admitted that he would be interested in a move to Atletico Madrid this summer should the opportunity arise
“It always makes you proud when you are linked to such great clubs as Atletico,” Capel told AS.
“I always want to continue growing and that is a great club.
“Now I do not know what will happen in the future, but any player would like to play there.”
Capel almost moved to England in 2011 with north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur taking an interest in him. But for now he has confessed to not giving his future much thought as he is currently on holiday.
“It has been another good year for me in Portugal, but now I am disconnected from it all in Ibiza,” he added.
