Roma forward Pablo Daniel Osvaldo is set to turn down a move to Tottenham Hotspur in favour of a move to Atletico Madrid instead, according to Sky Sports.

The 27-year-old Argentinian born Italian international had been on Andre Villas-Boas’ wish list for the past few months with the Spurs boss reportedly making contact with the Italian giants several times regarding a possible transfer, however, the player’s agent has claimed that talks with Atletico are reaching an advanced stage and a deal to take him to Spain is close.

Speaking to Radio Mana Mana Sport, Diego Tavano said: “The negotiations are taking place and the fee will be around 18million Euros.

“The attacker is well liked in Spain and he just needs to find the right emotional balance because he has incredible qualities.”

Osvaldo had endured a difficult season at the Stadio Olympico last term – he managed to enjoy his most prolific season yet by notching 17 goals in 31 games across all competitions, but was kicked out of Italy’s Confederations Cup squad by Italy boss Cesare Prandelli after he insulted Roma club coach Aurelio Andreazzoli both on the field and via Twitter.

Osvaldo was unhappy with Andreazzoli for giving him just 15 minutes of playing time from the bench during the side’s Copa Italia final defeat to Lazio.
