Captain linked with Millwall
A move to the Championship could be in the offing, for Newcastle Jets Captain Ruben Zadkovich.
The 27-year-old, would join countryman Scott McDonald and Shane Lowry at the New Den, as well as following in the footsteps of established faces Lucas Neill and Tim Cahill, both of whom had spells in South East London.
Zadkovich has made two previous unsuccessful forays into English football earlier in his career, signing for Queen’s Park Rangers in 2004, then moving to Notts County a year later, playing a total of just 9 games in those two years.
In 2008 he returned to try his luck a second time, after a stint with Sydney FC where was part of the 05/06 Championship winning side.
He spent two further years with Derby County appearing just times in a injury-stricken two years with the Rams.
Due to the limited time to line up a replacement It is thought unlikely Jets will release their captain who has just two years left on his contract, without a significant offer from the Lions.
Jets CEO Robbie Middleby poured further cold water over the deal, insisting the club was not about to let the captain leave, he told Fox Sports: “I’ve heard nothing from them at all, and two months out from the season the last thing we would want would be to lose our captain.”
