Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has been desperate to sign some defensive re-enforcements following injuries to several of his key defenders.
Manchester City look set to complete the signing of Atletico Madrid defender Martin Demichelis, with the central defender currently under going a medical with last seasons Premier League runners-up, Sky Sports reports.
The experienced Argentine defender will cost City around £4 million and will provide manager Manuel Pellegrini will some defensive cover following injuries to first choice centre backs Matija Nastastic and Vincent Kompany.
Pellegrini has had to use Javi Garcia as a makeshift centre back in recent weeks, which has led to several poor defensive displays from the Sky Blues.
The Chilean manager had originally tried to sign Real Madrid centre back Pepe as defensive cover but the Spanish giants demanded to much money for the Portuguese defender, so Pellegrini turned his attentions to Demichelis.
Pellegrini won’t mind this however as he enjoyed a good relationship with Demichelis during their time together at Malaga.
Demichelis only recently moved to Atletico Madrid on a free transfer from Malaga but will now join Pellegrini at the Etihad if he does pass his medical.
The 32 year old played nearly 250 games for Bayern Munich and has 37 caps for Argentina.
