Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to land a prolific forward to spearhead his Blues attack and is willing to offer Romelu Lukaku in part exchange for the Brazilian born goal machine.
Mourinho has been scared off from making a move for Radamel Falcao after being told the Colombian would cost £80m and will now turn his attention to 25 year old Costa, who has scored an astonishing 19 goals in 17 La Liga fixtures this season.
Jose Mourinho is unhappy with the efforts of trio Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba and may well feel Costa is the ideal man to lead his Chelsea attack.
Costa apparently has a £32m release clause written into his contract and a move to trigger the deal along with the addition of Lukaku may well tempt Diego Simeone, especially if the Vicente Calderon man pushes for a move to the West London club, who can no doubt offer the forward a large pay packet than Atletico Madrid are able to.
