The La Liga hot shot has been linked with a move to the Premier League since last summer with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all being mooted to make a move for him at the end of the season.

However, Spurs have now joined the growing pack of admirers, but have been labelled as rank outsiders to win the race for his signature.

Bookmakers have priced them at 25/1 to land the striker, whilst Chelsea (6/4) and Arsenal (7/2) are the favourites to sign Costa in the summer, with Real Madrid (8/1) third.

Atletico had been hoping to keep a hold of him as they look to further strengthen ahead of next year’s campaign.

The Spaniards had been tipped to make a cheeky move for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, but he is expected to stay at Anfield where he will be looking forward to enjoying Champions League football with the club.

Atleti had also said to be showing an interest in Tottenham’s misfiring forward Roberto Soldado too.
