Chelsea will be happy to strike a deal to sell Thibaut Courtois to Atletico Madrid if the Spanish side offers €30m, football journalist Guillem Balague has claimed in his column for AS.
The Belgian keeper is rated as the most talented young goalkeeper in world football. Chelsea signed him three summers ago, but have sent him on loan to Atletico Madrid every season, and he’s developed his considerable talent.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has a difficult decision to make however, as current first-choice keeper Petr Cech is only 31-years-old, and has been ever-present for the side with the best defensive record in the top flight. He also needs funds to bring in a world-class striker, so could be happy to cash in on Courtois and invest the transfer fee into a more necessary area of the side.
Courtois is still only 21-years-old, so despite the large fee, would likely prove a sensible investment for any potential suitors.
Mourinho though has proved that he’s happy to give talented young keepers a chance. He immediately replaced Carlo Cudicini with a 22-year-old Cech during his first spell in charge, and also benched Iker Casillas during his tenure at Real Madrid.
