The Red Devils parted company with previous boss David Moyes on Tuesday morning after a disastrous set of results had left the Premier League giants with no chance of finishing this campaign in the top four of the table, and so United now face the unfamiliar prospect of not competing in the Uefa Champions League next season, the first time since 1995 that the club will not take part in Europe’s premier club competition.

And as a result, the Scot was sacked just ten months into a bumper six-year deal at Old Trafford, with the likes of both Netherlands national team coach Louis van Gaal and Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti having been installed as the immediate favourites to replace Moyes in the Theatre of Dreams hot seat next season.

However, it has now emerged that representatives from United have made contact with Conte’s camp to ascertain whether or not the Italian would be keen on taking on the role.
