The brilliant Belgium international has been with the west London club now for the past three years after signing from Genk in the summer of 2011 on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

However, in the intervening period Courtois has yet to actually make a single appearance for the Blues, who have instead opted to send the keeper out on loan to La Liga high-flyers Atletico Madrid in every campaign.

But now it is understood that Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho intends to recall Courtois from the Spanish capital when his latest loan spell at the Vicente Calderon comes to an end after the all-Madrid Uefa Champions final in Lisbon’s Estadio Da Luz on May 24 in order to go head to head with Czech Republic international Cech next season, with the two men set to meet for face-to-face talks in order to discuss the matter in the week after the showdown in the Portuguese capital.
