Chelsea will push on with efforts to land Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa but will look to cut the cost of such a move by offering Belgian ace Romelu Lukaku in part exchange for the Spanish international according to the Daily Mail.

Costa currently has a release clause that can be triggered by a £32m bid and the 25 year old appears likely to move to Stamford Bridge but in the interest of adopting a sensible approach in the summer transfer window Jose Mourinho appears keen to keep costs down by offering Lukaku to help balance the books in the interest of adhering to UEFA’s FFP (Financial Fair Play) guidelines.

Chelsea desperately need a prolific goal-scorer to lead their attack with the current crop of forwards Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o racking up just 19 of the club’s 71 Premier League goals, which in turn has been one of the chief reasons the west London club secured no silverware in Jose Mourinho’s first season back at the club.

Costa has scored 36 goals in all competitions this season and may well be tempted by a move to Chelsea where no doubt he will be offered a hefty pay-rise.
