Reports have stated recently that Arsene Wenger has made a replacement right-back his top priority to take over from the Manchester City bound Bacary Sagna this summer and the La Liga winner is apparently topping the wish list.
The Gunners had previously been linked with making a move for Toulouse star Serge Aurier, but Wenger has seemingly turned his attention towards experience rather than going with youth.
The 29-year-old was an integral part of Atletico’s successful season, making a whopping 47 appearances across all competitions as they eked out the competition in La Liga as well as making it to the Champions League final to face cross city rivals Real.
With the North-London side finally ridding themselves of a nine-year trophy drought, Wenger has expressed his desire to kick on with the Gunners development.
And Wenger is hoping that a move for the Spanish international will show to fans that he is not prepared to settle for another season of mediocrity.
