The 25 year old Brazilian born Spanish international netted his first national team goal in Spain’s 2-0 win over El Salvador and when cornered following the World Cup warm-up by Spanish journalists the in-form marksman stated;

‘Am I going to Chelsea? It looks like it.’

Chelsea have apparently already agreed a deal to meet the Atletico Madrid star’s €39m (£32m) buyout clause and a medical has also been passed and this source quotes a Blues source as saying;

‘Chelsea have made an offer to Atletico Madrid in compliance with the buyout terms in Diego Costa’s contract, and Chelsea have been advised that the player has provided notice to Atletico Madrid invoking the buyout clause and directing the club to accept Chelsea’s offer.

‘Chelsea looks forward to entering into formal transfer documentation with Atletico Madrid as soon as possible so that the player can concentrate on the World Cup.’

Costa had a superb season last term, playing a pivotal role in Diego Simeone side’s La Liga title triumph as well as their impressive run to the Champions League final.

The former Valladolid man scored 27 La Liga goals, finishing third in the standings behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and netted eight times in Champions League action.

Jose Mourinho has made a striker signing a priority following the failure of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o to regularly hit the back of the net in 2013/14.
