The 28-year-old has found himself behind the likes of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny this season as well as suffering several injuries that have limited his playing time considerably.
He has just one year remaining on his Arsenal deal, and the club may cash in on the former Ajax man instead of losing him for nothing next summer, with the Viola reportedly interested in the centre-back.
Several top European sides have all been tipped with making a move for his services, including Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester United.
However, leading bookmakers have put United at the top of the pile when it comes to negotiating a deal for the Belgian international with odds being offered at 5/2 that the defensive enforcer will sign for the Old Trafford outfit before 2nd September 2014.

“Several Italian clubs have shown an interest,” Kroes said.
We will wait for the World Cup before we discuss anything regarding his future.”
