Everton are reportedly concerned that Man United’s interest in midfield battler James McCarthy could lead to the Republic of Ireland man moving to Old Trafford according to Goal.com.
Senior members of Roberto Martinez’s squad are fearful that Louis van Gaal’s pursuit of the 23 year old could interest McCarthy, not least as the former Wigan Athletic man is said to be frustrated at the lack of a new contract that had been promised to him.

The Goodison Park side are ‘bracing’ themselves for an offer from Man United and it may be one that chairman Bill Kenwright may be forced to consider given that his side forked out a club record £28m to sign Chelsea youngster Romelu Lukaku.
Everton brought in McCarthy last September in a £13m deal and the tough tackler impressed in his debut season at the club and van Gaal may well see the Toffees star as a far better central midfield option than the likes of Tom Cleverley and Marouane Fellaini.
Louis van Gaal may well feel the need to bring in one or two more summer additions given his side’s opening day loss to Swansea City.
