Manchester United are set to return with a £32 million offer for Fiorentina wide man Juan Cuadrado, report the Express, as Louis van Gaal and Ed Woodward still strive to bring a world class performer to Old Trafford this summer.

Colombian international Cuadrado has emerged as a serious transfer target for United in recent weeks, with his flexibility in being able to play along the right hand side of the pitch making him particularly attractive to van Gaal, who is looking to deploy a 3-4-1-2 system at Old Trafford.

Fiorentina only bought the full rights to Cuadrado this summer, however, having acquired the other 50% from former club Udinese, and would only let the player leave if they were offered a huge sum.

Whether United’s imminent £32m bid is likely to be enough remains to be seen, but United director Ed Woodward will have to secure a big signing soon if he is to regain the trust of supporters after a second consecutive frustrating summer window.

United’s problems were exacerbated at the weekend when Swansea City were 2-1 victors at Old Trafford in van Gaal’s first competitive game in charge, despite the Red Devils having enjoyed a promising pre-season campaign that saw them defeat both Liverpool and Real Madrid.
