Di Maria has signed a five year contract and becomes the club’s fourth high-profile summer signing after the captures of Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw.
The Argentine ace has been tipped to leave the Santiago Bernabeu all summer, though at one point it looked like he would be heading to Paris Saint Germain instead.
However, the French side needed to find a buyer for some of their squad players first in order to fund the lucrative move, as Madrid were hoping to get the entire transfer fee upfront, rather than have to loan him to PSG for £10m with the proviso that they pay the rest next summer to avoid FFP regulations.
Di Maria was spotted heading to United’s training ground to undergo a medical on Monday night, further fuelling the speculation that a move was imminent.
And now his arrival could spell the end of the line for the likes of Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia, after both have drawn some heavy criticism in recent months, with the former coming in for particular scrutiny following his diving antics in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland.
