Cleverley is one of a number of players who could be leaving Manchester United today.
Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley is on his way out of Old Trafford with the midfielder negotiating his departure from the recently desposed Premier League Champions, Goal.com reports.
Aston Villa are favourites to sign the midfielder in a £7 million move with Cleverley having met Villa assistant Roy Keane over the weekend. The former Man Utd midfielder has persuaded Cleverley that Villa Park is the best place for his talents.
Everton are also rivalling Villa for Cleverley’s signature but the Birmingham based club are very much in pole position for the England internationals signature.
Cleverley had hoped to remain at Manchester United and prove his worth to manager Louis Van Gaal. However, the Dutch manager has told Cleverley that he isn’t part of his plans and is free to leave.
Following Van Gaal’s admission, Cleverley has become resigned to leaving Old Trafford. However, he wants to be compensated by United and is demanding that the club pay the final 12 months of his £50,000 a week contract, meaning the midfielder could receive around £1 million from the Red Devils.
Van Gaal is looking to completely overhaul his midfield and could sign midfielder Nigel De Jong as Cleverley’s replacement.
