Man United reportedly handed England striker Danny Welbeck £1.5m to seal his move to Arsenal on transfer window deadline-day according to the Daily Star.

The 23 year old signed for the Emirates Stadium side in a £16m deal as Louis van Gaal looked to make way for loan addition Radamel Falcao and was given a pay-off so as to force the deal through.

Welbeck was seemingly not part of Louis van Gaal’s first team plans, this despite the striker completing his most prolific season to date last term.

Despite Man United’s failings under former boss David Moyes Welbeck netted nine goals in 25 Premier League appearances, of which ten were from the bench.

Man United also loaned out Javier Hernandez to Real Madrid, the Mexican also not a player Louis van Gaal appeared to value, whilst the Old Trafford side forked out over £150m on new signings.
