The Spaniard says United’s fall from grace is a warning to other clubs.

Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has claimed that Manchester United tried to sign Arjen Robben, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Muller over the summer but failed because they didn’t have enough money or power, the Metro reports.

The Red Devils embarked on a complete overhaul of their squad over the summer and had targeted Guardiola’s trio of players but realised very quickly that they weren’t available.

”They [United] didn’t have enough money,” the former Barcelona boss said.

The Spaniard also claims that the Red Devils recent fall from grace should be a warning to Europe’s other big clubs.

”They [Manchester United] think: “We are unbeatable and strong” and they are not here. Maybe the next season they are out,” the 43 year old added.

”That’s why football is magnificent.

”Every single week you have to be ready. Every week you have got to show you are ready.”

Although United failed to sign any of their Bayern Munich targets, they did end up bringing the likes of Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao to Old Trafford.

Altogether, the 20 time league champions spend nearly £150 million on new players during the summer and it looks to have paid off, with Louis van Gaal’s side thrashing QPR 4-0 on Sunday with Di Maria and Falcao both taking part.
