Despite his tender age and lack of experience the Englishman was a vital part of Roberto Martinez’s side last season, and the Toffees have visibly suffered this season without the dynamic midfielder.
Having finished fifth last season they are currently languishing in 15th. With a tricky fixture against Manchester United this weekend the Merseyside club will need to improve drastically if they are to get themselves out of their current rut.
Once Barkley has recovered from his knee ligament tear he probably won’t be rushed back by Martinez for fear of aggravating the injury, but once he is fully fit and back in the side fans at Goodison Park will be hoping to see a new and vibrant side.
