Old Trafford side want to bring in third Argentine international.
Man United have sent scouts to keep tabs on Zenit centre-back Ezequiel Garay according to the Daily Express.
Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal is apparently ‘desperate’ to sign the £18m rated Argentine international as he seeks to fix his leaky defence.
The former Benfica man may well be tempted by a move to Man United, where he would team up with national team colleagues Marcos Rojo and Angel di Maria, and would certainly big a big improvement on the current central defensive options available to the Dutch manager.
Van Gaal sent two scouts to see Garay in action during Zenit’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen last week.
Garay cost Zenit £12m over the summer but could perhaps be a player Man United can tempt away in January with Louis van Gaal said to be set for a major transfer fund injection despite having spent £150m over the summer.
Man United have been forced to throw youngsters Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett in at the deep end at points this season whilst Phil Jones has struggled with injuries and Jonny Evans has shown a marked drop in form, hence the need to invest in a new defensive option.
