The two clubs were supposedly in attendance to se exciting Slovenian defensive prospect Petar Stojanovic in action against the Blues, with the 19-year-old possibly set to be a target for both clubs this January.

A highly promising young centre-back, the exciting teenage talent has previously been looked at by Southampton and is regarded as having made outstanding progress in recent times after becoming a regular in the Maribor first-team.

Both Arsenal and United are in need of defensive signings this winter, with the two clubs struggling for numbers at the back due to an unfortunate number of injuries suffered in key areas in that part of the pitch so far this season.

Arsene Wenger’s side are without the likes of Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Debuchy at the moment, while Louis van Gaal has had to cope without big names such as Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling for large chunks of the campaign so far, with Marcos Rojo also looking set for spell on the sidelines.
