Man Utd prepare to launch £20m bid for Atletico Madrid defender Miranda…
Manchester United are set to test Atletico Madrid’s resolve in January, by submitting a £20m bid for defender Miranda, as Louis van Gaal continues his search for a world class centre back.
Reports in the Daily Star claim that the Brazilian has been fast-tracked to the top of United’s wanted list, with Van Gaal preferring the Atletico man to Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels, Athletic Bilbao starlet Aymeric Laporte and West Ham’s Winston Reid.
Miranda reportedly has a £24m release clause in his contract with the La Liga champions but the Star’s Spanish sources reportedly suggest the Red Devils will offer £20m.
However, even if a bid is accepted, Van Gaal is likely to face an uphill battle to convince the defender to move to England. Following transfer speculation during the summer transfer window, the 30-year-old admitted he was settled in Madrid.
He said: “I think that it’s normal footballers to leave the club when they have found success. Staying at Atleti was the best for me and my family. I’m very happy to be at Atleti. I love Madrid and this is a great club.”
