Rene Meulensteen Heads To The MLS

Former Manchester United and Fulham coach Rene Meulensteen is going to the MLS to take up a role with Philadelphia Union.

It is understood that Muelensteen will take a consultative role, assisting the sporting director with the structure of the club. He has been linked to the team over the past half-a-year, though reports that he would become the Union’s manager ultimately proved to be false.

The news follows last week’s announcement that Jim Curtin would be hired on full time basis after being the caretaker manager since this summer. Under his guidance the team improved after a sluggish start to to the season, whilst also finishing as runners-up in the U.S. Open Cup.
