According to The Daily Telegraph, Abbas will face a minimum 12-month rehab program and will miss a portion of the 2015-16 season.

Abbas was tackled by Wanderers midfielder Iacopo La Rocca in the early stages of Saturday’s Sydney derby and looked to be in a great deal of distress.

Sydney FC chief executive Tony Pignata confirmed the 28-year-old’s injury to the newspaper, and said it was unlikely to see him back before January 2016.

It’s the second major injury the Sky Blues have suffered in as many weeks, with striker Corey Gameiro rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament whilst on Olyroos duty.
