Southampton could be set to rival Manchester United for the signing of Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder this January, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 30-year-old has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, though this has so far never materialised in a glittering career for the Dutchman, who is perhaps most well known for his superb spell at Inter Milan.

Sneijder has also played for Ajax and Real Madrid, but his form has dipped somewhat in recent years and it now seems that Galatasaray are ready to offload him for the right price.

The Netherlands international is supposedly unhappy in Turkey and looking for a move this winter, and he may be tempted to link up with his fellow countryman Ronald Koeman at Southampton, who are in need of signings after a major drop in form in recent games.

Despite a fine start to the season for the Saints, they have now lost five games in a row to spark some panic and need for improvement at the St Mary’s Stadium.
