Reports in Spain are now suggesting that he will pen a four-year deal with the La Liga outfit until 2019.

It had been claimed that the Red Devils were in pole position to land Perez after Valencia refused to meet his £23m release clause, but it now appears that the Portuguese champions have agreed to a lower offer.

The deal will likely be confirmed at the end of the week and will come as a huge blow to Louis Van Gaal’s ambitions, who had hoped to bring the Argentine international on board to play on the right-hand side of his midfield diamond.

This is the second setback United have suffered this week after Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman declared he had no intentions of leaving the club anytime soon.
